Fonthill House Care Home in St Albans, Hertfordshire, has been awarded ‘Beacon’ status for ‘End of Life and Palliative Care’ by the Gold Standards Framework.
NEW FRIENDS & NEW HORIZONS
Great friendships form not only among residents but also between residents and staff.
Walk around Fonthill House Care Home on any given day (our coffee shop is open to the public and everybody is welcome) and in the music lounge you might see Joan playing the piano or pop into our bright art studio to see Lola working at her easel. Outside in the Fonthill House gardens (opened by Charlie Dimmock) you might find Peggy and Hilda tending the rose bushes.
All of this bustle, fun and camaraderie is in stark contrast to the isolation, loneliness and lack of support that many elderly people can feel while living at home alone. Instead of a single visit from a carer each day, Fonthill residents find themselves immersed in a real community with beneficial effects for physical fitness and state of mind.
Real home cooking and appetising menus
Prepared by our team of expert Chefs in our restaurant.
Included in our holistic approach, is restaurant quality food prepared by our team of chefs. Everything is freshly prepared each day: we work with dietitians and nutritionists to create appetising menus which can be tailor-made for each guest. Freshly caught fish, the finest meats, nutritious smoothies and juices all help to improve well being, health and vitality.
A seasonal menu is served in our restaurant and head chef James takes great care to tailor the dishes to the style of food our residents enjoy. As health needs change, James (lead by Claire our dietitian) adapts the menus ensuring nutritious meals are served and enjoyed.
Once the food has left the kitchen Linda takes over front of house. She manages the waiting team in the restaurant, room service team and our coffee shop (where family and friends regularly dine with us). Everything served in the restaurant can be eaten in residents’ rooms. There are a selection of traditional teas and fresh cakes served in our coffee shop daily and cream tea served at 3pm in the coffee shop and to residents rooms.
Regular live music performances, classical, jazz, piano recitals and more.
Our music lounge is host to a variety of live musical performances, including talented (brother and sister) musicians Edmund and Elisa Jeffery. On Monday nights our choir, the Fonthill Nightingales, get together for a very relaxed sing-a-long.
The U3A (University of the Third Age) host monthly classical music appreciation meetings where residents can spend the afternoon enjoying the music followed by a discussion.
All of our rooms are fully furnished with en-suite wet rooms.
Our private rooms at Fonthill House Care Home are always equipped with the correct bed for you. We use specialist beds and high-grade pressure relieving mattresses for residents with high care needs and more homely divans for residents with low needs.
Each bedroom has a its own call bell system to enable residents to request assistance from care staff or room service. Every room has a smart TV and high speed WiFi to enable the use of FaceTime to keep in touch with family.
