The whole team at Fonthill House are here to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The nurses lead the clinical team fully supported by the nursing assistants and care assistants. We have a hospitality team, housekeeping team, maintenance team and an activities team.
Everyone is employed for their naturally caring attitude and then fully trained in the “Fonthill way”. Testament to everyone’s dedication and hard work is the high number of thank you cards received.
DR LOUISA WAITES
FONTHILL HOUSE RESIDENT GP
Based at Fonthill House Dr Waites responds quickly when our residents need to see a GP.
Our nurses communicate daily with Dr Waites in order to diagnose and treat both acute and chronic health concerns. This proactive approach helps to maintain residents’ well-being and allow early detection of illnesses that may lead to unnecessary hospital admissions if treatment were delayed. Medication reviews, health assessments and psychological support are regularly combined to manage both physical and mental long term conditions, adapting care to the individual as change occurs.
Dr Waites’ particular passion and interest is in palliative and end of life care. The Fonthill multidisciplinary team work closely together to provide compassionate & holistic care as people approach this phase in what can be an uncertain time for residents and families.
DIRECTOR OF NURSING
Caroline worked in the NHS for 20 years before joining Fonthill Care. In her most recent post she was responsible for the provision of all district nursing across St Albans. Caroline’s role involved managing community matrons, specialist palliative care nurses, community nurses and therapists dealing with complex health issues in the local community.
Caroline began her NHS career by training as a registered adult nurse at Preston University in 1995. She later completed a Post Graduate Degree in District Nursing at London South Bank and has held a number of senior clinical and managerial posts in various specialities.
Helen qualified at the university of Hertfordshire in 1997 her main background being in Acute medical nursing. During her career she gained extensive experience in coronary care and later worked for the hospital bank whilst her children were small, working mainly in A and E in an Intermediate care rehabilitation setting.
Helen joined Fonthill in 2015 adding to the variety of expertise already within the nursing team.
With 10 years nursing experience in the NHS qualifying at Hertfordshire University in 2008. Kelly gained experience in acute medicine and specialist nursing skills before taking a role as a community nurse. She now commands skills and knowledge of continuing health care, chronic wound management and advanced clinical assessment.
With 15 years nursing experience in the NHS, most recently leading a team of district nurses. Her expertise includes palliative care and management of complex long term conditions. Qualifying at Hertfordshire University in 2003 she went on to gain a Post Graduate Degree in Emergency Care, working 5 years in A&E. Nicola then went on work as a bariatric specialist nurse at Luton & Dunstable hospital.
Olivia graduated from Bucks New University with a first class honours degree. She worked in care for five years prior to qualifying as a nurse, working in hospitals and community settings, specialising in elderly care, learning disabilities and neurological rehabilitation. Olivia trained as a nurse gaining experience at the Royal Liverpool Hospital in A&E and acute trauma, before working as a staff nurse on the Acute medial assessment units and A&E at Watford General Hospital.
Mary qualified as a Registered General Nurse at the National University of Galway, Ireland in 2012. She worked as a staff nurse on an orthopaedic ward and moved to community nursing to follow her passion for care of the older person. Mary quickly demonstrated a high level of clinical competence and compassion.
Claire graduated from King’s College London with a degree in Nutrition & Dietetics (HCPC Registered). She trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and the Royal Free, gaining clinical experience in nutrition support, elderly care, adult food allergy, gastroenterology, food intolerances, diabetes, enteral feeding and cancer. Claire has worked at Fonthill since 2015 and provides tailored nutritional advice to promote health, prevent disease and maintain quality of life.
Mei graduated with a first class honours degree in physiotherapy in 2007. She has worked extensively in the NHS with particular experience in elderly care, orthopaedic and respiratory conditions. Mei’s main focus at Fonthill is to help maintain each resident’s optimum physical function and advise care staff on how best to achieve this.
Evie has been an integral part of the Fonthill team being with us since the start and developing a strong working knowledge of the home. She is always available and happy to help with the smooth running of all departments – a great contact for dealing with issues or planning needed to make your stay with us as enjoyable as possible.
Jessica started at Fonthill in 2013 when we first opened. She has worked in all departments including 2 years as a care assistant. She has a passion for art and really enjoys hosting the weekly quiz. Planning outings and events in the home, Jess has helped create an interesting and varied activities schedule.
Coco liaises with the residents to plan outings and events in the home. She studied broadcast journalism and enjoys film and theatre and regularly helps residents choose films to watch in our cinema.
